The History of Kimbolton Castle
Kimbolton Castle has a fascinating past. Originally built as a wooden motte-and-bailey castle during Norman times it was later transformed into a stone manor house. In the late 12th century Geoffrey Fitz Peter 1st Earl of Essex made significant changes. The castle is most famous as the final home of Catherine of Aragon who lived there until her death in 1536.
Between 1690 and 1720 Sir John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor redesigned the castle into the Baroque masterpiece seen today. Now an independent school Kimbolton Castle offers a stunning setting for weddings.
