At John Fox Wedding Photography, I always welcome questions because it shows me just how important your wedding photographs are to you. I believe open communication is key to ensuring that your vision is captured perfectly.
To help you get started, I’ve answered some of the most common questions here, but please don’t hesitate to ask me anything else. Whether it’s about your timeline, specific shots, or anything unique to your day, I’m more than happy to discuss and make sure everything is just right for you.
It’s recommended to book your wedding photographer as soon as you have a date. Photographers, especially those in high demand, often book up quickly, particularly during peak wedding seasons. Securing your photographer early ensures you get the professional you want, allowing ample time for consultations, engagement shoots, planning timings and discuss any other ideas. Some clients even book up to 24 months in advance, which not only increases the chances of availability but also locks in the current price. This then protects you from potential future price increases.
Obviously booking as early as possible is advisable to avoid disappointment.

If you don’t like having your picture taken, don’t worry—you’re definitely not alone. It’s not about turning you into models for the cover of Vogue, but rather about capturing the natural love and connection between you two. I’ll help you feel comfortable in front of the camera, and we’ll work on this during the pre-wedding shoot, where we can talk through any concerns you may have. The goal is for you to enjoy the experience, and I focus more on capturing those genuine, candid moments rather than having you pose for the camera, most of the posed shots are not actually posed towards the camera. Many couples feel the same way, and by the time the big day arrives, you’ll feel much more relaxed. Take a look at some pre-wedding shoots on my journal page.
For your pre-wedding shoot, I recommend wearing something casual yet smart. You want to feel comfortable, but also look your best—after all, there might be a picture captured that ends up being one of your all-time favorites. You’ll want to make sure you’re wearing something you’d be happy to see on the wall for years to come! Choose an outfit that reflects your personal style but adds a touch of class for those timeless shots. See some ideas on my journal page from previous shoots here.
The number of photographs I take at a wedding can vary depending on the day itself—every wedding is unique, with different personalities, guest numbers, and events. My focus is always on quality over quantity, ensuring that each image captures the essence of your day rather than simply snapping away. That said, you will have more than enough pictures to choose from, covering all the key moments, candid shots, and special details. I aim to provide a comprehensive collection that tells the full story of your wedding day, giving you plenty of beautiful memories to cherish.
You will receive a digital copy of all the photos, not just the ones you select for your album. These will be provided in two formats: a smaller file size optimized for social media, perfect for sharing with friends and family, and a high-resolution set for personal use. This way, you have full access to all the images captured on your special day, giving you flexibility for both digital use and sharing.
Yes, I do have a drone, which allows me to capture stunning aerial shots and unique angles of your wedding day, adding an extra dimension to your photos. However, it’s important to note that certain weather conditions, such as high winds or rain, as well as venue restrictions, may prevent me from flying the drone. I always ensure safety and compliance with regulations, but when conditions allow, the drone can provide breathtaking perspectives of your venue and surroundings, making your wedding photography even more special.
Yes, I now offer video services through the new addition of John Fox Wedding Films. After teaming up with Simon, a talented filmmaker I’ve known and worked with since 2004, we can provide you with comprehensive coverage of your wedding day. Together, we capture both stunning photography and cinematic video, ensuring every special moment is beautifully documented. This partnership allows us to work seamlessly, giving you a cohesive blend of images and video that tell the complete story of your day.
I photographed my first wedding over 25 years ago, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless weddings. Although I’ve lost track of the exact number, each one has been unique and memorable in its own way. My experience spans weddings all across the UK, and I’ve even had the opportunity to photograph destination weddings as far as Italy. No matter the location, every wedding holds its own special charm, and I’m passionate about documenting each couple’s day in a way that reflects their personal story.
I’m happy to travel anywhere in the UK for your wedding and beyond. I’ve even gone as far as Italy for previous weddings! So yes I do shoot destination weddings and you can learn more here. Being based in the Midlands makes it easy to reach most locations, but if your venue is more than a 3-hour drive away, I would recommend talking about arranging a BnB. This ensures I can arrive the night before and be fresh and ready to capture your day, without the stress of dealing with potential travel delays. My priority is to be fully prepared and focused on your wedding, so we’ll make sure and discuss the travel arrangements.
To book your wedding photography, simply complete the booking form and contract, and pay a £250 booking fee. This fee secures your date and ensures I will be available to photograph your special day. At the time of booking, you don’t need to decide on a specific photography package—just let me know that you want me to be there. We can discuss and finalize your package details closer to the wedding, allowing you time to consider what best suits your needs. Once the booking is confirmed, you can relax knowing your photographer is secured for your big day.
The payment for your wedding photography is split into two stages. 50% of the balance is due 8 weeks before your wedding day, with the final balance due 2 weeks before the event. This arrangement helps to spread out the payments, making it easier for you to manage your wedding budget. The schedule ensures everything is in order as we approach your big day, allowing you to focus on the celebration.
The exact start time for photography on your wedding day is something we’ll discuss during the pre-wedding consultation to ensure it fits perfectly with your schedule. Typically, I begin capturing the day between 2 to 2.5 hours before the ceremony. This allows plenty of time to photograph the preparations, such as getting ready, bridal details, and the excitement leading up to the ceremony. However, the timing can be adjusted based on your unique plans to ensure every important moment is covered.
Yes, family and friends can easily purchase individual prints or even parent albums. Parents have the option to get exact copies of your wedding album, or they can create their own album with a selection of their favourite images. Additionally, extra prints in various sizes, from 7″x5″ to larger wallart prints, are available, allowing everyone to have their own special keepsakes from your wedding day. See some of the special wallart options here.
Yes, you absolutely pick the pictures for your final album. Since it’s your album, it’s important that the images reflect your personal memories and moments that mean the most to you. While I could choose photos based on a photographer’s perspective, I believe it makes more sense for you to select the images that resonate with you on a personal level. After all, it’s your special day, and your album should showcase the memories that are most meaningful to you.
Yes, I am fully insured, which is an important aspect of working as a professional wedding photographer. Many venues require all suppliers, including photographers, to have the necessary insurance in place before allowing them on-site. This not only protects me as a photographer but also ensures that your wedding day runs smoothly without any issues related to venue policies. You can rest assured that everything is covered, and I’m happy to provide proof of insurance if your venue requires it.
For 99% of the weddings I photograph, I work on my own, and that’s usually more than enough to capture everything beautifully. However, if you feel you really want a second photographer, I offer the option to add one to any of my packages. Most couples prefer a relaxed, unobtrusive photography style, and adding an extra photographer, which means another camera, can sometimes make it feel more like a production than a wedding. Naturally if you have it videoed this increases the cameras too. That said, I’m more than happy to discuss this option with you, but with my experience and time management on the day, I can typically cover all the important moments without the need for a second photographer.
The production timeline for your wedding begins with the photographs being ready within two weeks after your wedding day. Once you receive the images, you’ll select your favourites for the album. After that, I design the album, which I typically try to have ready in about a week. Once you approve the design, the album is manufactured, and depending on its style and the time of year, it can take between 4 to 8 weeks to complete. This ensures that your wedding memories are beautifully preserved and delivered with care.
