Dodford Manor Wedding

Catherine and Andrew’s Dodford Manor wedding in Northamptonshire brought together a story that had already started with their pre-wedding shoot at Houghton House in Bedfordshire. Their wedding day continued that story with family, friends, their personalised guest book, Bella their dog and plenty of memorable moments.

Catherine and Andrew’s Wedding Ceremony at St Mary’s Church

The wedding ceremony took place at St Mary’s Church at Dodford. It was especially meaningful for Catherine because the ceremony was conducted by her uncle.

Catherine’s uncle had christened her when she was younger. Years later, he had the very special role of marrying her to Andrew. Having the same person mark such an important moment at both ends of Catherine’s journey made the ceremony particularly personal.

After the ceremony, the celebrations continued at Dodford Manor with Catherine and Andrew surrounded by their family and friends.

A Dodford Manor Wedding in Northamptonshire

I have photographed two weddings at Dodford Manor in the last 12 months, with another wedding booked before the end of 2026. Catherine and Andrew’s wedding was another opportunity to return to a venue I know well.

However, every wedding is different. Each couple brings their own people, plans and personality to the day. That is what makes returning to the same venue so enjoyable.

Catherine and Andrew’s wedding also brought some changeable weather. Light rain showers came and went throughout the day. With careful planning, we were still able to take all of their family and friends photographs outside.

Rather than let the weather dictate the day, we watched for the right moments. This meant we could keep the photographs relaxed while giving Catherine and Andrew plenty of time with their guests.

Catherine and Andrew’s Wedding Photography

The couple photographs took place after the wedding breakfast. This gave us time to step away from the celebrations and create some portraits together.

The changing weather also gave us an opportunity to work with the light. Later in the day, the sun appeared through the rain clouds as it began to set.

That became one of my favourite moments from their wedding.

We captured Catherine and Andrew in the evening light before they returned to their guests for the first dance. It was a short part of the day, but it produced some lovely photographs.

For me, creativity starts with what is actually there. Light plays a huge part in my work. I use available light whenever it works, with off camera flash when it helps create something different.

I prefer to find a creative solution within the real environment rather than build a false one afterwards.

From Their Houghton House Pre-Wedding Shoot to Their Wedding

Catherine and Andrew’s story began with their pre-wedding shoot at Houghton House in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.

The location was particularly meaningful to Catherine because of her childhood family memories there. Their dog Bella also joined them for the shoot, adding another personal part to their photographs.

Bella was also part of their wedding day at Dodford Manor. It was lovely to see her there again after meeting her during their pre-wedding shoot. Having photographed Bella before the wedding meant I already knew her, which made those moments on the wedding day feel even more natural.

Those Houghton House images later became part of their personalised wedding guest book.

Ten of their favourite photographs from the shoot were printed in a lay-flat guest book. The book then travelled with them to Dodford Manor, where their family and friends could add their own messages.

It was lovely to see that part of their story become part of the wedding day too. From their meaningful pre-wedding shoot to their personalised guest book, with Bella joining them along the way, these details made the whole story personal to Catherine and Andrew.

A Wedding Day with a Changing Sky

The weather became part of Catherine and Andrew’s wedding story without taking over the day.

Light rain appeared at different points. We simply worked around it. Family and friends photographs were completed outside, while the couple photographs took place after the wedding breakfast.

Then, just when we were approaching the evening celebrations, the sun appeared through the rain clouds.

That changing light gave us another opportunity.

The photographs from this part of the day have a completely different feel from those taken earlier. The sky, the light and the timing all came together naturally.

That is one of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings as they happen. You cannot always plan the exact light. You can, however, recognise an opportunity when it appears.

Catherine and Andrew’s Wedding Film

Catherine and Andrew also chose John Fox Wedding Films to record their wedding day.

Photography captures a moment. Film adds movement, voices and sound. Those elements bring another dimension to the memories of a wedding.

Their wedding highlight reel will be available on the John Fox Wedding Films page.

It will give Catherine and Andrew another way to remember the people, sounds and moments that made their Dodford Manor wedding their own.

Planning Your Own Dodford Manor Wedding

Returning to Dodford Manor for Catherine and Andrew’s wedding was another reminder of how different each wedding can be.

I already know the venue well. However, I never want that familiarity to make the photographs feel predictable.

Instead, I look at each wedding as its own story. I watch the light, follow what is happening and look for the moments that matter to each couple.

If you are planning your own wedding at Dodford Manor, I would love to hear about your plans. You can also visit my Dodford Manor wedding photography page to see more of my work at the venue.
